Does It Really Matter?
During the last few hours, there has been much posted on various sites about the, "loss," of some police units - TAC for example. Does it matter? This is why I ask. Because nothing was ever done here on Lamberton Street. I have a neighbor who was watching the drug deals taking place in front of her house. She was damn good, too. She would come to CPAC and STARS meetings with dates, times, license plate numbers, descriptions only to be told by Luis Reyes for one, "Well, ma'am, if we don't see it, we can't do anything about it." She finally gave up and who can blame her? But the fact remains that ordinary citizens saw it going on but the trained professionals NEVER saw it. Which is why several locals are convinced the police are on the take. Here's a really off-the-wall suggestion. Get rid of the expensive trained professional police and let the neighbors do the investigating. Give the neighbors a 10% reduction on their property taxes for their good work, and Trenton will still be a head of the game. The drug dealers will be gone, the city will save money on the police, and the residents will be happy to have a tax reduction. Blogolanders, my feeling is, "Good riddance!" The Trenton Police Department is so devoted to Trenton, that most of them live elsewhere, were delighted to have a contract that the city could NOT afford the day it was signed, have privately referred to Trentonians as animals, and on and on.

I wholeheartedly agree Mrs. S! I'm sick of NEVER seeing a Trenton cop cruise by the local pot dealers and smokers, hellions, litterbugs etc. Windows up and dark tint. They don't want to engage the community and after all this time, they wonder why the community won't engage them either (those werent gunshots...just fireworks sir). I'm sick of he crying, whining and the " we work sooooo hard". Now, it's the never-ending chorus of "we are short staffed and overworked" Boo-hoo! I'd take the job in a heartbeat! My neighbors are the best Police and security force we have. We cannot rely on the police, except to eat free food at our picnics. What's wrong with a nice evening on my porch with my camera and taser ! Lol.
I'll tell you what's wrong with it...The cops would end up seeing you tazer someone and you would end up getting locked up and then sued by the scumbags that were the drug dealers to begin with...That's the way this city likes to work!
Well glad to see you feel that way, Pat. Hope you enjoy the changes that re coming your way!
well when one of the existing cops gets gunned down trying to save your pathetic life, just remember that officer is someone's child, parent, sibling, someone loves that officer. Since the layoffs none of these officers have complained of being overworked, they have been working twelve hour shifts some going home for a few hours to nap and shower and coming back for a repeat 12 hour shift. So yes genius let us dismantle the department and put C.O.P.(citizens on patrol). And when the gangs or drug dealers decided to have a territory battle and one of your loved ones gets murdered don't say a thing. These men and women took an oath to protect and serve the community. When you reduce the force by 1/3 and then talk about putting police on foot you are jeporadizing lives of citizens and officers. Maybe if you people weren't so afraid of these users and dealers who are probably your kin, the officers could get them off the street. You can't make a charge stick if you don't have proof and witnesses. so again when your husband gets shot during a carjacking don't cry, if your teenage daughter ends up getting raped during a home invasion, don't cry, and when the gangs start rioting and looting don't cry
Yes, it DOES MATTER and how ridiculous of you to make that insinuation. I surely hope you NEVER have to pickup the phone and call TPD for assistance. Will these citizens also be able to TESTIFY IN COURT WHEN NEEDED? Will they be able to REMOVE AN AK47 FROM A 12 YEAR OLDS JACKET?...I HIGHLY DOUBT IT.....But since it doesn't matter, call those Citizens on Patrol when a home invasion happens to YOU....

This is the way I see it. I believe in a higher authority. Unlike SOME cops though I believe that higher authority is God, not myself. I believe we were all CREATED EQUAL and were put on this earth for one reason. That being to live our lives as good Christians and to raise our kids the same.
I don't believe any one person's life is more precious than that of anyone else. Not even a cop's. And when our time is up, it's up! Whether we die from cancer, a plane crash, are killed in the line of duty, etc. isn't our choice to make. Our choice was to live our life the best that we could.
I have to laugh at some of the postings I read in various places by cops or their wives/girlfriends. The postings at Trenton Speaks alone are enough to you an idea of the mentality and attitude that SOME cops have. Attitudes like that don't change to good when they get on the job. Why, I'm not even afraid to bet my life that a lot of the postings there are done during work hours by cry baby, dead wood pencil pushers because they feel the world owes them.
Trust me Pat I don't want my husband saving all your sorry, ungrateful cop hating asses every day but he does and he does so with honor and dignity. He and the other officers have served the citizen's of Trenton for many years at great risk to their own lives. They kiss us and their children good-bye every day knowing that may be the last. They made the decision to risk their lives for all of you and what they get in return is a bunch of disrespect.
Now this moronic mayor has made decisions that will put them more at risk and you are happy about that. Why? because one of your neighbors wrote down alleged drug seekers license plate numbers. Really, is that enough evidence to convict or would a court of law consider that to be hearsay? You may want to brush up on your understanding of the law.
Disbanning proactive policing is a big mistake. These officer's have seized large amouts of gun and drugs off the street. They deal with the most violent of criminals and gang members. In a few weeks when things are worse you will be complaining about nothing being done. The foot patrols are a diaster waiting to happen. Just think how long the response time will be from an officer on foot. Hope you do not have a home invasion anytime in the near future.
And finally to aswers those who moan and groan about officers not "engaging the community" let me tell you this. My husband has been and officer for many years and when engaging the good citizens of trenton he has been cursed at, mocked, insulted, had bottles thrown at him and physically attacked on more than a few occasions. Can you blame any officer for not wanting any part of this. It is this reason that we moved out of the city. Who the hell wants to live in a community who treats them like this.
So, before you go boo hooing to the Trentonian or on your blog spaces about the cops remember you got what you wished for.
Tell me this ole proudTPDwife. Why is it that you don't see the wives of soldiers overseas on the internet crying and needing to defend their husbands that DO their jobs with honor and dignity?
So a two year who gets shot in the head by some gun toting thug, deserved to die beause the baby's time was up? I am neither a wife or girlfriend of a cop. I lived in Trenton for several years, and some of the police officers who were either demoted or forced into retirement have been around since I played basketball at cyo. I currently work in the city of trenton and my son goes to a daycare center not far from my job. While I used to see 2 to 3 officers a day at drop off and pick up times in various areas of this highly poplutated part of the city since the layoffs i've seen one. However I see an increase in thungs hanging around just waiting for trouble to find them. Yes when your time is up it may be up and God has the ultimate decision there. these men and women took this job of their own accord, but there are staffing levels that are being undermined, putting the public at risk as well as the safety of these officers. Who is Mack to sign a death certificate for these officers and the citizens of trenton. Again when you need one of these men or women to assist you, when you are gunned down just pray to your god and don't cry out for help because after all you're time was up.
@ladyjane
Yeppers, that's what I'm saying. Whether it be a 2 year old, a 30 year old or a 60 year old, when your time is up, it's up.
So what if you work in the city and your son goes to daycare not far from where you work. Who cares that you don't see that many officers that you've known since you played basketball at CYO in the area at that time. If you don't like it move the eff out.
I don't know of any officers that were FORCED into retirement but I do know a lot of officers that chose retirement instead of being demoted. They chose that because not only do they not want to have to work, they don't want a decrease in their retirement due to a demotion. So you tell me, who the eff are they really worried about? I can assure you it's NOT their ole CYO basketball playing buddy ladyjane!
Yes, these men and women took this job of their own accord so that's a choice that they made. Whatever happens to them happens because of a choice that they made in life.
As far as me needing one of these so called men or women to assist me, I have been assaulted and left on the street for dead. I was found much later and am still here today to tell about it. I was so battered that my own family didn't recognize me. My guess is that the Good Lord didn't think it was my time yet.
So I suggest that you take your little daycare son and move the eff out instead of crying about how you don't see these crooked cops protecting your ass anymore.
